Two Great Options — But Which One Is Right for Your Home?
When it comes to protecting your Lincoln home from Nebraska’s extreme weather, siding is your first line of defense. The two most popular siding materials we install at Gonzalez Transformations are vinyl siding and fiber cement siding (commonly known by the brand name James Hardie). Both are excellent choices, but they serve different needs and budgets.
Vinyl Siding: Affordable and Low Maintenance
Vinyl is the most widely installed siding material in the United States. It’s lightweight, affordable, and available in a huge range of colors and styles. Modern vinyl siding is much more durable than older versions — it resists fading, won’t rot or attract insects, and never needs painting.
Pros: Lowest upfront cost, virtually maintenance-free, wide color selection, easy to repair individual panels.
Cons: Can crack in extreme cold, may warp near high-heat sources (like grills), and doesn’t have the same premium appearance as fiber cement.
Fiber Cement Siding: Premium Durability and Curb Appeal
Fiber cement is made from a mixture of cement, sand, and cellulose fibers, resulting in a dense, heavy-duty material that can mimic the look of wood, stucco, or stone. It’s extremely resistant to fire, insects, rot, and impact damage — making it one of the toughest siding options on the market.
Pros: Superior durability, excellent fire resistance, premium appearance, holds paint longer (10–15 years between repaints), and increases home value.
Cons: Higher upfront cost, heavier (requires stronger attachment), and does need occasional repainting.
Which Should You Choose?
For homeowners focused on budget and simplicity, vinyl is a great choice. For those who want maximum durability, curb appeal, and long-term value, fiber cement is worth the investment. Both perform well in Nebraska’s climate when installed correctly.
At Gonzalez Transformations, we install both materials and help you make the right call based on your priorities. We’ll bring samples, discuss warranties, and provide a detailed estimate — all for free.
